As a small or home business owner, you don't want to complicate operations with a complex payroll system or expensive payroll service. More and more businesses are moving to online payroll service providers just for this reason.

Online payroll systems can save you time and money when you set up the program - but you also get ongoing savings because the service is easy enough to use that you don't have to hire a payroll company. You can use it yourself or have your bookkeeper handle payroll tasks.

You can use a payroll service from a local accounting firm, or you can enroll in one of the popular online payroll systems from companies like PayChex, ADP, CompuPay or Intuit Online Payroll

Not only does online payroll software let you pay your employees easily and at minimal cost - it can help you pay employment taxes and file tax forms as well. In fact, with Intuit's Online Payroll program, tax payments are calculated for you and tax forms are completed for you.

The Intuit Online Payroll Mobile app is a newer additional and works with iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Now payroll can be managed even if you are out of the office.

 They even have a lower-cost plan for companies with 3 or fewer employees. Right now the cost is less than $20/month. (However, the "unlimited employees" version costs only $6 more). Compare that to what you would pay a payroll company.

Quickbooks accounting software is required to use Quickbooks Payroll, and they easily integrate with each other.

Also, you will want a printer because the payroll service lets you print checks (although you also have the option to set up direct deposit for employees).
